Arrive in Mexico City and transfer to
the hotel. Overnight at hotel.
Today's program includes a flying visit to the Botanical Garden of Zapotitlan, which is actually not a garden
in the usual sense, but rather a natural landscape with meter-high columnar cacti, palm trees and elephant's foot trees. In the afternoon,
drive on (approx. 4.5 hours) to the colonial city of
Today you embark on a long but varied journey (approx. 6.5 hours) with a brief stop at Playa Cangrejo
to Tehuantepec. Here you take a tour through the city, starting at the monastery, via the
church and the zocalo to the market - a real spectacle, because the market activity is determined by the assertive "Tehuanas"
- the strong women of Tehuantepec.
Today you will visit the Sumidero Canyon (journey approx. 4.5 hours) and take a boat trip
through the impressive, deeply incised Canyon of the Rio Grijalva with its steep walls reaching up to 1000 m.
In this national park, waterfalls, luxuriantly growing ferns and an interesting animal world
will surprise you with their diversity. Afterwards you drive to San Cristobal de las Casas and get to know the
city during a sightseeing tour.
Mexico has more than 30 World Heritage Sites one of which we will see today on our way to Palenque
Today you drive to Palenque (approx. 4 hours). A very special experience awaits you with a
visit to the Maya site. The ruins with the large palace and the world-famous Temple
of the Inscriptions will fascinate you. A short jungle hike will also take you to the
Temple Olvidado, the lost temple.
Day trip to Yaxchilan, located in the middle of the jungle right on the border with Guatemala.
The City of Green Stones is famous for its stelae, reliefs and sculptures. In its heyday, the
Maya city ruled Palenque as well as Tikal and Copan. Followed by a visit to the subtropical waterfalls by Roberto Barrios.
Drive to Chicanna (approx. 5 hours) and visit the ruins of the Mayan city.
Rediscovered in 1934, the city's heyday is believed to be in the Classic period, as most of the buildings
date from between 600 AD and 830 AD. The city benefited from its position on the central trade route between
the Gulf Coast and the Caribbean coast and was therefore richly decorated, which can still be seen today..
In the morning you will visit the Mayan site of Becan with the oldest architectural
defense system in Mexico and the very well preserved mask of the sun god Kinichna.
Then drive to the spectacular Mayan city of Calakmul. Here you are in the actual country of
origin of the Maya. During a hike you can visit the ruined city in detail. So you can e.g. B.
climb the old pyramids and enjoy the panoramic view over the area in the middle of the jungle. Return to Chicanna.
The first destination of the day are the ruins of Edzna (approx. 4.5 hours drive), a
center of power that was founded around 400 BC. ruled large parts of the Yucatan. The
building of five floors is one of the most interesting monuments of the entire Mayan culture.
In the afternoon you reach Campeche. You will visit the Cathedral La Concepcion and the
heart of the city - the small Zocalo Parque Principal. In the alleys you will feel as if you have been transported
back to the time of the Spanish conquerors.
More information about Campeche
Discover a city steeped in legends and traditions
Of Mexico's 13 Heritage Cities, Campeche stands out from the rest for one important reason: it's the only walled city. This hexagonal defensive system, represented by its forts and bastions, is a reason to plan a trip to this destination in southeastern Mexico.
A guided tour of the fortresses and bastions to imagine how the city defended itself against Cornelio Holz "Pata de Palo" and other pirates will be the perfect pretext to discover the main monuments of the capital Campeche.
Visit Uxmal today. On a hike through the excavation site with its decorated facades,
huge terraces and squares, columns and archways, you will immerse yourself in the history of the late classic Maya epoch<(strong>
Then continue to Merida and extensive tour of the colonial-charming city center. Continue (approx. 4.5 hours)
in the direction of Valladolid.

GESCHICHTE Mérida
In 1542 the Spanish conquerors found the Maya site called "T'Hó" which means "Place of the Five Hills". There they discovered a settlement that reminded them of the remains of Mérida in Spanish Extremadura. They renamed the city and used the stones of the temples to build the cathedral, government buildings and the houses of the conquerors.
Currently, Mérida is the economic, cultural and service capital of the Mexican Southeast. It is an easily accessible cosmopolitan destination connected to the world by air, sea and land thanks to a privileged geographical location. It is a place that delights in true originality, a richness of expression with universal value and scope. In 2019, the city was named a Creative Gastronomic City by UNESCO.
Drive to Chichen Itza and visit the famous place of worship. The Maya culture, further developed by the influence of the Toltecs from central Mexico, is expressed here in all its splendor. From the buried buildings and those overgrown by the jungle, e.g. B. "El Castillo", "El Caracol" and the observatory, only about 30 have been uncovered and restored to date. In the afternoon visit the impressive Cenote in Dzitnup, a freshwater lake in an underground limestone cave.
Drive towards the Caribbean Coast to the Mayan Rock Fortress of Tulum directly to the sea. On a tour
you will explore the fascinating Mayan city, of which only the temple district with the palace, the Templo del Dios Descendente
and the Templo de los Frescos remained. The symbiosis of ruins, white sand and turquoise-blue water is attractive
here. You will arrive in Playa del Carmen in the late afternoon.
