MUAC (University Museum of Contemporary Art), in Mexico City
Museum
tour in CDMX
The MUAC is a 14,000-square-foot contemporary art museum on the site of
Mexico City's largest public university. Designed by architect Teodoro
Gonzalez de Leon, the building itself attracts architecture and design
lovers.
How is the permanent collection?
MUAC would like to build up a collection of contemporary Mexican works of
art from the 1950s onwards. The works range from paintings and drawings to
video and sound installations.
And the exhibits?
The non-permanent exhibitions usually attract MUAC. They offer a wide range
of well-curated contemporary art in a variety of media.

And the exhibits?
The university campus (which is on an eco-reserve) is a popular spot for
families on weekends, so the museum can be particularly busy on Saturdays,
Wednesdays and Sundays.
When is the best time for a visit?
The museum can get crowded with families on weekends as there are often
workshops for kids on weekends, but it's generally quiet during the week.
Just do it, come with....
How were the facilities in the practical tip?
The museum is generally easy to get to and wheelchair accessible.
Gift shop: mandatory, inspiring - or skip it?
The store mainly sells books on art and design, with some items related to
the current exhibition.
Is the café worth visiting or should we just plan on going elsewhere?
Café Nube Siete offers outdoor seating with a glass floor surrounded by
volcanic rock. Well worth a visit simply for the design (but the food is
pretty good too).
How much time should I plan for a visit?
I recommend working an hour and a half for museum visits, but you can often
visit in less time if you are not particularly attracted to the current
exhibition.
