A morning like no other in Oaxaca
Start your day in the lively old town and soak up the colorful hustle and bustle of central Hidalgo Square . Experience the ornately gilded interiors of the 18th century originating church of Santo Domingo de Guzman , the most important Cathedral of Oaxaca in baroque Architektursti l. Visit the Museum of Cultures, housed in the neighboring monastery complex , and learn about Mexico's rich history while viewing exotic exhibits how to admire the treasures of the Mixtecs - the 'people from the cloud country'. B then isit the adjacent ethnobotanical garden in which myriads of bloom exotic agave and cactus species. Stroll through the pedestrian zone of Alcalá , which is characterized by brightly colored house facades, street musicians, street artists and the small shops of local artisans . Equip the nearby, in Empire style with marble staircases and elegant arches and Corinthian accents designed Macedonio Alcala-Theater a visit. Make small stops between the individual sights and try delicacies such as the refined, smoky mezcal, coffee from Oaxaca , hot chocolate and of course the local delicacy : fried grasshoppers.

As an integral part of Oaxaca's gastronomy, the city's markets have become increasingly popular with travelers looking to sample some of the region's signature dishes and purchase handicrafts. You start your tour at Mercado 20 de Noviembre (market on November 20th) where you will discover two main areas: the general area and the food court . Strolling the corridors of the latter will awaken all of your senses with vibrant colors, textures and scents that will whet your appetite. The food court has a variety of stalls for you to use Moles, soups, broths, milk chocolate and even grasshoppers can try . The food is reasonably priced and is accompanied by live music . However, there is one area that has received critical feedback from culinary experts: the pasillo de humo (smoke passage), the nickname for aisles used to grill meat. The smoke duct works in a special way. At the entrance you will receive a tray with chillies and onions . You make your way to your chosen meat stand , where you leave your tray and wait for your vegetables to be charcoal grilled next to your meat .
It is important to be careful as vendors come over and offer tortillas, tlayudas, chocolate, vegetables, lemons, and anything else you might need to accompany your meat.
Be sure to visit the Benito Juárez Market before you leave. After all, it is the most representative of the city . Here you will find a variety of handicraft products such as jewelry, textiles, ceramics and wickerwork, as well as regional dishes such as cheese and grasshoppers.
It's worth noting that both markets offer traditional alebrijes, small, animal figures with very vivid colors that emerge from the dreams and imaginations of the artisans.
Guided tour and tasting in a mezcal distillery
We drive from Oaxaca to a nearby mezcal distillery. The regional drink with alcohol is made from agaves . Since the Spanish conquerors , mezcal has also enjoyed great popularity beyond the borders of Mexico . Find out everything about the techniques for distilling this traditional drink, which have been handed down for generations . Learn about the different types of agave that are used to make mezcal . Both cultivated and wild varieties are used for production . From maturity over age Various factors determine the very complex production of the agave plant .
